AI Tools for the RCNJ Community

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools Available to RCNJ

This page provides the latest guidance on use of AI tools on campus, their availability, and the status of the College’s stance on AI.

Policy & Guidance

RCNJ provides structured guidance on the use of AI tools across different contexts.

  • For an overview of the College’s general stance on AI in the workplace, see the policy titled Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Workplace. In short, users must not upload or submit any personal or sensitive information when using any AI tool.
  • Faculty can find specific guidance tailored to teaching and research through the Instructional Design Center’s Teaching with AI site, which outlines responsible and ethical integration in academic settings.
  • For insights from the broader academic perspective, including best practices and considerations for scholarly work and integrity considerations, refer to the Provost’s site Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning.

These resources collectively offer a framework for thoughtful and informed use of AI tools in professional and educational contexts. All existing policies, state regulations, and standards still apply, such as Ramapo’s Data Protection Policy.

Disclaimer

AI tools may not always be accurate and do not necessarily reflect official positions. Some tools can also contain biases. For critical matters—such as medical, legal, or financial decisions—always consult a qualified professional.

Students should visit The Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning page on the Provost’s website for guidance on the use of AI in academic coursework. Students should consult with the course syllabus and their professors to confirm whether the use of AI is specifically authorized in each of the courses in which they are enrolled. Students should also review the , which contains guidance on how the inappropriate use of AI may result in a violation of the academic integrity policy.

Available RCNJ Tools

Through their Ramapo accounts, faculty, staff, and students have access to and as primary AI tools. Microsoft’s is also available, and individual free accounts are permitted; however, the College is not providing additional paid accounts for either at this time.

While these AI tools are available for use, they do not supersede or alter any instructor’s established course requirements, guidelines, or directives. See instructor’s course syllabus or course site (e.g., Canvas) for individual course instructions.

Guidance on Disclosing the Use of AI to Develop Work-Products

Those who use AI while creating work-products (i.e., written statements, coding, essays, policies, position papers, slide presentations, diagrams, figures, agendas, etc.) should include a disclosure statement to ensure transparency and to minimize the potential for plagiarism. Disclosure statements should include:

  1. A declaration of the specific AI tool used
  2. A description of the use (i.e., for brainstorming, editing, or generating an initial draft)
  3. A list of the prompts used to generate content
  4. A brief description of how the AI-generated output was edited by the human, and
  5. An affirmation that the human author takes responsibility for the accuracy and ethical use of the content (i.e., that the human reviewed, edited, and verified the output for accuracy).

Common disclosure statements may indicate that AI assisted in drafting the product, while human oversight ensured its final quality.
