Renowned feminist artist Nancy Spero filled both galleries with her female figures in an exhibition titled聽Sheela Does Ramapo. The title refers to her 鈥渉istorical鈥 use of the Sheela-Na-Gig fertility figure in colorful and energetic works. Spero鈥檚 highly respected oeuvre includes works which celebrate the place of women in society and powerfully comment on oppressive political situations. The exhibition included a major Spero work from the Ramapo College Collection.

Automedia is a term coined by Paris-based artist Chris Clark to describe video art shot in or from a car. This frenetic exhibition curated by School of Contemporary Arts Professor Shalom Gorewitz featured photography and video and focuses on artists interpreting the landscape while moving through it on wheels. Included are George Bobby Jones, Portia Cobb, David Freund, Christen Clark, Sophie Calle, Peter D鈥橝gostino, Kristen Lucas, Franz Vila, Jesse Rosser, Douglas Kelley, Hiro Yamagata, Geoffrey Biddle, and Louis Faurer. This exhibition extended beyond the Berrie Center Galleries onto other areas of the campus.

Each year the Ramapo Curatorial Prize is awarded to a second year graduate student at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. The 2001 winner is Allison Peters. Her exhibition聽flesh and fluid聽interprets organic forms of the human body through works by Aziz+Cucher, Matthew Barney, Charo Garaigorta and Cathy de Monchaux.
