ROTC Cadets Commissioned as U.S. Army Officers聽

A pair of 2026 Ramapo College of New Jersey graduates returned to campus this summer for a ceremony marking their transition from Reserve Officers鈥� Training Corps (ROTC) cadets to second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

Joshua Calderone ’26, a finance major from West Milford, NJ, and Joshua Visingardi ’26, an information technology management major from Nanuet, NY, were honored during the ROTC commissioning ceremony that took place in front of Ramapo鈥檚 historic Havemeyer Arch in July.

鈥淭hey have become officers of the Army 鈥� and will serve with honor,鈥� said Cesar Fuentes, Ramapo鈥檚 coordinator of military and veteran enrollment and success.

During the ceremony, the newly-appointed officers were pinned by Ramapo College President Cindy Jebb, Ph.D., a retired U.S. Army brigadier general who previously served as the first woman dean of the Academic Board at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Going forward, 2nd Lt. Calderone will serve on active duty as a logistics officer, and will start a basic officer leadership course in the fall, Fuentes said, while 2nd Lt. Visingardi will serve in the Military Police Unit of the New Jersey Army National Guard.

The commissioning marked the second year in a row that such a ceremony took place on campus for members of the Ramapo Roadrunner Company. Ramapo is a crosstown partner of the Pirate Battalion Army ROTC program at Seton Hall University. Through the partnership, Roadrunners who join Army ROTC become part of a community of cadets at both Ramapo and Seton Hall and gain opportunities to lead, serve, learn and train.

鈥淚t is a great honor that Ramapo Roadrunner Company had its own commissioning ceremony for the ROTC graduates as we want to keep up the tradition moving forward,鈥� Fuentes said.

Ramapo students can also join the Air Force ROTC through a partnership with NJIT.
